The gift of sight. Drishti Daan provides free cataract screenings and surgeries to individuals who have been blinded by a completely treatable condition — simply because no one came to help them.
Cataract is the leading cause of preventable blindness in India. Thousands of elderly farmers, homemakers, and labourers have spent years unable to see clearly — not because treatment does not exist, but because no one brought the treatment to them.
Our mobile screening camps travel to communities identified through our field networks. Those diagnosed with operable cataracts are transported to partner hospitals, operated upon at zero cost, and returned home with post-operative care kits and follow-up visits.
Our teams travel to remote communities to screen individuals for cataract and other treatable eye conditions.
Diagnosed patients are transported to partner hospitals and operated upon at zero cost — no payment, no paperwork for the patient.
Protective glasses, post-operative care kit, and follow-up visits ensure complete recovery and sustained sight restoration.
Kamla, 72, had lived in blurred darkness for two years. After her surgery at our Drishti Daan camp, the first thing she did was pick up her colourful saree and smile at the mirror. "Kitne rangeen hain ye kapde — bhool gayi thi main," she said.
